Project
The Dunne Group has worked with Atlantic Canada’s convenience store industry for many years on advocacy and government relations initiatives. This work has included representing motor fuel retailers in each of the Atlantic Provinces - primarily convenience store operators – at public hearings into adjustments to regulated retail margins on motor fuel.
In 2020, the Dunne Group was lead on a Nova Scotia retail margin review hearing. Work involved preparing and submitting evidence and adjustment rationale; reviewing evidence submitted by other participating parties; and participating at the public hearing itself, including questioning other parties and preparing and presenting a summary statement.
The review was atypical because of industry’s need to address the considerable losses motor fuel retailers had experienced due to COVID-19. The outcome was a successful decision in favour of an adjustment that included an extraordinary temporary adjustment to allow motor fuel retailers to recover COVID-19 related losses. The adjustment will result in millions of dollars of needed incremental margin revenue for Nova Scotia gas retailers.
